Last Thursday, September 25, over 200 attendees gathered at the High Desert Museum for an evening of fun, food and exploring local resources for the classroom. Sponsored by Mid Oregon Credit Union, this years’ Teachers’ Night Out was the 5th annual appreciation and resource fair exclusively for educators. Attendees came from all 6 Central Oregon School Districts, the High Desert ESD, local private schools and included home school educators. One teacher came from as far as Paisley!
Teachers, administrators and other educators were treated to food, drink, prizes and 33 community partners sharing their abundant tools and opportunities for the classroom and schools. The varied organizations present included Sunriver Nature Center, Junior Achievement of Central Oregon, Deschutes Public Library, the Forest Service, Better Together, the Museum at Warm Springs, Redmond Area Parks & Rec and many more.
One of the great benefits of living in Central Oregon is our accessibility to opportunities which create a rich lifestyle. The High Desert Museum, in addition to being a source for educators, has provided a venue, an event and an atmosphere bringing these resources closer to those who can use them well to help future generations appreciate and learn from them. Mid Oregon is thankful we can support educating our youth through such a quality programming and organizations.
We look forward to our next event partnering with the museum, Free Family Saturdays. These will be held on January 24 and February 21, 2015. These free admission days allow many members of our community to see all the High Desert Museum has to offer, including many who otherwise could not afford it.
